For songwriter Ken Goodwin, Mine Was Later began while cleaning out the refrigerator. Like many people, he found himself checking expiration dates on food items and deciding what had passed its useful life and what still had time left.
Around that same time, he had learned about someone struggling through the end of a relationship. As he reflected on their situation, an unexpected thought entered his mind:
"What if love has an expiration date too?"
That simple question became the foundation for Mine Was Later.
