The Story Behind One More Time
“One More Time” was inspired by Ken Goodwin watching one of his sons go through a difficult first love breakup. It was a moment where the emotional impact was clear, yet despite knowing it wouldn’t work, his son would still let her back into his life from time to time.
“That’s what stuck with me,” says Goodwin. “Watching him know better… but still feel something strong enough to open the door again.”
As a parent, Goodwin reflects on the challenge of wanting to protect his children from that kind of pain, while also understanding that it’s something they have to experience and work through on their own.
The spark for the song came unexpectedly while he was watching North Woods Law. A simple moment, a “No Trespassing” sign triggered the central idea.
“I remember seeing that sign and thinking… that’s exactly what this is,” Goodwin explains. “Sometimes people let someone cross a boundary they know should be there.”
That moment became the lyric: “I’d let you trespass on my heart one more time.”
Whether it’s a first love or a relationship later in life, many people experience moments where emotions override logic.
“It’s not about wanting someone back,” Goodwin says. “It’s about recognizing that this happens, people feel something, even when they know how it ends.”
“One More Time” captures that space between moving on and still feeling something, where strength and vulnerability exist at the same time.
